Post Op Rehabilitation

Get Back to Your Best After Surgery

We work with the following types of surgery.

  • Total knee replacement
  • Total hip replacement
  • ACL reconstruction
  • Achilles tendon repair
  • Knee Arthroscopy
  • Conservative management of Achilles tendon rupture
  • Hip Arthroscopy

If your surgery is not on the above list, please get in touch to see if we can help.

After surgery we are sent home with exercises and advice to adhere to and return to the hospital for wound checks, consultant reviews and physiotherapy appointments, weekly, fortnightly, monthly to review progress but COVID in particular has changed this.

Unfortunately, we often hear the same stories.

“I never managed to get back to doing the things I love”

“It is better than it was but my running days are over”

“I always feel weaker on that side but that was my operation side”

After having surgery, recovery can vary hugely from one patient to another, and to maximise your outcome, treatment needs to be tailored to your recovery path.

So What is the Ideal Rehab Program?

You should have constant support and be managed with a different philosophy.

In the initial couple of days after surgery, time is spent letting the surgery site settle with a strict plan of advice and exercises. Treatment would then be daily with the main emphasis placed on what you can move and strengthen whilst protecting the surgical site with the ultimate aim to prevent de-conditioning.

This level of care is only generally available to professional sportsmen and women where money is no object, but at Online Physio, we feel that we can offer the next best thing.

By treating remotely, we are able to provide you with the same level of support and personalised care at an affordable price.

All you need to do is let us know when you are having your surgery, what surgery you are having and what you would like to get back to doing.

We Perform a 4 Stage Approach Dependent on Your Situation, Aspirations and Dreams

Stage 1

Healing and Protection. Focusing on the reactivation of muscles, swelling management and regaining range of movement within the limitations of the surgery to the affected area. It is also about keeping other joints mobile and muscles firing optimally.

Stage 2

Strengthening the affected area and restoration of full range of movement in the joint.

Stage 3

A return to daily life activities and function, as if the surgery had never occurred. This may be enough for 50% of our clientele but if you want more, we have a further stage.

Stage 4

Return to sport, return to physical activity and most importantly get back to doing things you didn’t think possible before your surgery.
